As of July 2018 the airplane emoji has been made available as a new Facebook reaction for users in some markets. This is available in addition to existing emoji reactions such as the thumbs up, heart, or laughing face and appears to be the unintentially result of a internal testing reaction being made public.
Airplane was approved as part of Unicode 1.1 in 1993 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
